The Woman in the Yard, The Passion of Joan of Arc, and Transformers One
published: Mon 31 March 2025The Woman in the Yard (2025) is not a horror film, as so many reviewers were disappointed by. Rather, it's a psychological character drama in the same vein as The Babadook, with plenty of horror elements. More importantly, it has some of the best cinematography and editing I've seen, and all of the actors are amazing, even the child actor.
The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928, yes, really) is a French silent historical film about the trial of Joan of Arc and the next in Matthew's "make Ibb experience classic cinema" list. I can't really recommend watching it unless you're trying to learn film theory, but it's a classic for a reason. The facial acting is wonderful, especially Joan's manic smiles.
Transformers One (2024) is a dumb baby movie, but it's a fun dumb baby movie. The voice acting and direction is great and the visual aesthetic is delightfully colorful. You really have to turn your brain off to enjoy the plot, but the rest is good.
