Novocaine, Night of the Zoopocalypse, and Rashomon
published: Mon 17 March 2025Novocaine (2025) is a comedy/action film with Jack Quaid (I know him from The Boys but he's a fairly prolific actor). It was funny and plenty gory, if a bit loose in the plot structure. Might be worth seeing in theaters.
Night of the Zoopocalypse (2025) originally had the much better title of Night of the Zoombies. It's an animated film by a relatively unknown animation company about some zoo animals being infected with a space zombie plague. It's got a lot of good humor, but mediocre writing and acting. The main draw is the inventive mutant-zombie-monster animals. Wait for home video.
Rashomon (1950) is a classic Kurosawa film. Matthew apparently has a list of critically important films he wants to show me and this was first on the list. Great editing, great cinematography, great acting, so-so story. Definitely check it out if you haven't already.
Of the two theaters, the one of note this time was the Plymouth Grand 15. Minimal food selection, but it's some of the best theater food you can find. I had a hot dog this time and they actually cooked it fresh! Even burnt it a little, which is how I like them. They also had banana Icees, which are delicious.
